Introducing the ‘Wearable extension’. A handmade fashion piece that is exclusively available through the conceptual art crate and of which the design reflects its purpose.
All major brands in the luxury industry use silk as their go to material for the production of scarfs. In order to produce one kilo of silk, over 5000 silkworms are sacrificed. Once the worms starts pupating in their cocoons, these are boiled alive. One kilo of raw silk requires 80 kg of cocoons.
silk is the new fur
We managed to source a vegan material with the exact same look & feel as silk but which is actually an organic polyester. By wearing this scarf, you’re giving the cocoon a chance to turn into a magnificent butterfly.
On the first side of the scarf we can see a firefighter walking through the Amazon completely damaged by the fires, a compelling visual representation of the issue that we’re aiming to raise awareness for.
On the other side, we see the actual purpose and impact we’re looking to have with this project. Which is to make the lungs of our world flourish again by raising awareness on sustainable production. More than often these fires are lit intentionally in order to create more unsustainable production capacity.
